Cinryze (C1 esterase inhibitor) is used for the preventative treatment of hereditary angioedema (HAE). Hereditary angioedema is a rare genetic disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of severe swelling in various parts of the body, including the hands, feet, face, and airway.

The active substance in Cinryze, C1 esterase inhibitor, is a protein extracted from human blood. The C1 inhibitor protein is required to control the complement and contact systems, collections of proteins in the blood that fight against infection and cause inflammation. Cinryze works to prevent the swelling and painful attacks through the human C1 inhibitor.
