Cosentyx (secukinumab) is to treat several inflammatory conditions, particularly autoimmune disorders associated with dysregulation of the immune system, including psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, spondylitis, and non-radiographic axial spondylarthritis.
Cosentyx belongs to a class of medications called interleukin-17 (IL-17) inhibitors, which work by blocking the activity of IL-17, a protein that plays a role in the inflammation process. By blocking IL-17, Cosentyx can help reduce pain, swelling, and stiffness in joints and other affected areas of the body, as well as improve skin symptoms in psoriasis.
Cosentyx is specifically intended for patients who have failed to respond to other treatments such as TNF inhibitors.
