Keytruda (pembrolizumab) is used in the treatment of various cancers, particularly those that express elevated levels of PD-L1 (programmed death-ligand 1) and are associated with microsatellite instability (MSI) or mismatch repair deficiency (dMMR).

The active substance in Keytruda, pembrolizumab, is a monoclonal antibody, a protein that has been designed to recognize and block a receptor called PD-1. By blocking PD-1, pembrolizumab stops the cancer from switching off these immune cells, thereby increasing the immune system’s ability to kill the cancer cells.
