Lumizyme (alglucosidase alfa) is a hydrolytic lysosomal glycogen-specific enzyme indicated for patients with a rare genetic order called Pompe disease, an inherited disorder in which patients have breathing difficulties and muscle weakness.

Lumizyme is a form of enzyme replacement therapy that replaces the missing enzyme alpha-glucosidase, which is needed to break down a complex sugar called glycogen. By providing the missing enzyme, Lumizyme helps to reduce the buildup of glycogen in the body’s cells, particularly in the muscles, where Pompe disease can cause weakness and damage.
