Nexviazyme (avalglucosidase alfa-ngpt) is an enzyme replacement therapy used to treat patients with Pompe disease, an inherited disorder in which patients have breathing difficulties and muscle weakness.
The active substance in Nexviazyme, avalglucosidase alfa, is a version of the enzyme alpha-glucosidase that breaks down glycogen into glucose that can be used for energy by the body’s cells. By replacing the missing enzyme, avalglucosidase alfa helps break down glycogen and stop it from building up and causing the symptoms of the condition.
