Qalsody (tofersen) is a medication designed for the treatment of a specific subtype of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) characterized by a genetic mutation in the SOD1 gene. This genetic alteration results in the accumulation of toxic SOD1 protein within the brain and spinal cord, contributing to the progression of the disease.

Qalsody, works by binding to messenger RNA associated with the SOD1 gene. This targeted approach aims to diminish the production of the harmful SOD1 protein, addressing the root cause of the condition.
