Why not call us right now?

Ancef (cefazolin) is an antibiotic that is used to treat bacterial infections of the lungs, bone and joints, urinary tract, skin, genitals, and gallbladder, including severe or life-threatening heart or blood bacterial infections.

Cefazolin works by killing bacteria or preventing their growth. As a first-generation cephalosporin antibiotic, it binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) involved in cell wall construction. This interference weakens the bacterial cell wall, making it susceptible to osmotic pressure changes, and leading to cell breakdown.

Cefazolin can also be given before and after surgery to prevent infections.
